Sep 17, 2025 • 3 min read *The initiative will deploy LYT’s advanced cloud-based Transit Signal Priority (TSP) technologies to optimize traffic flow at 90 intersections across four key bus corridors* **Santa Clara, Calif, – September 17, 2025** – LYT, a leader in NextGen intelligent connected traffic technology solutions, today announced its continued expansion into the East Coast through a contract award from the Maryland Transit Administration for a SMART Grant-funded project. The transit agency, in collaboration with Baltimore City Department of Transportation, will deploy advanced cloud-based Transit Signal Priority (TSP) technologies to optimize traffic flow at 90 intersections across four key MTA Local Bus routes: CityLink Red, CityLink Green, CityLink Lime, and CityLink Brown. The project aims to improve bus service in Baltimore’s northern region by implementing a cloud-based Transit Signal Priority (TSP) system. This advanced solution uses near-real-time data from buses, which is processed in the cloud, to communicate with traffic signals, allowing buses to progress more quickly. This approach boosts efficiency and reliability while being more affordable to install and maintain than older roadside technologies. The system will securely integrate with Baltimore City’s existing traffic infrastructure and use artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) algorithms. Over time, these algorithms will continually learn to predict bus arrival times more accurately, which will ultimately reduce travel times and improve on-time performance for riders. Better urban mobility and public transportation are essential for enhancing the quality of life and fostering a more sustainable community. By giving buses priority at traffic signals, the project seeks to reduce congestion, shorten travel times, and make public transit a more reliable and attractive option for residents.
