LYT ANNOUNCES ITS LEADING TRANSIT SIGNAL PRIORITIZATION TECHNOLOGY IS PLANNED FOR CRITICAL SIGNAL INTERSECTIONS THROUGHOUT SALEM, OREGON
Leading AI-Powered Prioritization Solution Designed to Improve Traffic Flow For Transit Buses
Santa Clara, Calif., – May 10, 2023 – LYT, a leader in intelligent connected traffic technology solutions, in partnership with Coral Sales Company, announced today it has signed an agreement with the Salem Area Mass Transit District in the city of Salem, Oregon, to implement its advanced Transit Signal Prioritization (TSP) system, LYT.transit, reducing traffic congestion and improving transit flow through 22 signalized intersections.
Cities like Salem today are becoming more complex, especially in a post-pandemic world. This entails the right urban mobility with forward-looking and sustainable infrastructure and transport solutions that enable the movement of commuters and first responders more efficiently.
The Salem Area Mass Transit District, more commonly known as Cherriots, is a community lifeline connecting people to the places where they live, work, learn, shop, and explore. Cherriots provides fixed-route, paratransit, regional, and rideshare services with a mission of connecting people with places through safe, friendly and reliable public transportation services.
LYT’s Transit Signal Priority solution produces a consistent and reliable green light for every transit vehicle more affordably than other solutions on the market. These technologies harness the power of a single edge device installed in Traffic Management Centers that enable transit vehicles to speak directly to networked traffic signals in cities through the LYT.speed cloud platform. LYT’s best-of-breed transit priority and emergency preemption solutions now leverage leading GPS network and location tracking capabilities.
The TSP system will allow buses to communicate with Salem traffic signals and provide optimized green lights for buses running behind schedule, allowing them to move more efficiently.
Salem city and transit agency officials will also gain access to LYT’s first-of-its-kind Transit Insights Platform where they can quickly gain key insights about route performance over time, showcasing the operational benefits of LYT’s cloud-based TSP and highlighting intersections with potential operational improvements to unlock further route performance optimization. Tracking over 100 performance metrics in real time, the new LYT.transit insights platform will empower Salem officials to take back control of the timeliness and reliability of their transit schedules. Real-time tracked metrics, such as red-light delay over time, green light prioritization success, and route performance by bus stop, will provide meaningful and actionable insights they can act on immediately.
LYT is a cloud-based software platform that uses state-of-the-art connected vehicle and machine learning technologies to prioritize the flow of vehicles in a city and across a corridor. By optimizing public transport, emergency and other vehicles it enables shorter travel times, less congestion, improved air-quality, longer lives and more reliable mass transit.
“We believe that cities like Salem are great examples of progressive-minded communities that are improving the overall quality of life for its residents and businesses through the use of leading-edge AI-powered technology,” said Tim Menard, CEO and Founder of LYT. “Our transit priority solutions today are serving as a new benchmark for the way in which cities leverage data, technology and AI in a budget-conscious method to reduce the flow of traffic and also the ways in which machine learning can quickly adapt to new traffic patterns.”
“As a Salem native, I am proud that my team is a part of this transit project that will bring LYT’s Transit Signal Priority Solution (TSP) to the city,” said Diane Grant, Owner and President of Coral Sales Company, LYT’s local integration partner. “LYT’s TSP Solution improves efficiency and reliability for mass transit riders. The positive effects of LYT’s adaptive solution includes reduced emissions through increased ridership and consistent mobility, benefitting all members of the community.”
