At LYT, innovation is more than just a buzzword. It’s our commitment to transforming transportation systems for the better. Across cities and communities, our solutions are driving change and improving efficiency, safety, and sustainability. Here are a few examples of how LYT’s technology makes an impact wherever it’s implemented.
MBTA & LYT: Transforming Boston’s Transit
LYT partnered with the MBTA for a 1-year Proof of Concept along highly trafficked routes—57 and 66 on Brighton Avenue. This pilot addressed key challenges in Boston’s transit system, including interoperability with customized ATMS systems, adapting to new technology, and improving efficiency in a historic, increasingly populous area. Previous TSP solutions lacked insight into proven functionality, but LYT delivered measurable success with its innovative solutions.
LYT.transit was deployed across three critical intersections:
Brighton Avenue & Allston Street
Brighton Avenue & Harvard Avenue
Brighton Avenue & Linden Street
Impact Highlights:
- 21% reduction in daily red light delays, saving over an hour of travel time daily
- 27% faster travel times during peak hours
- Over 200 gallons of fuel saved per month
- 2 metric tons of CO2 saved per month
- 385 daily trips prioritized, benefiting 15,000 daily riders
Proving the Value of TSP
LYT.transit proved transit signal priority could seamlessly integrate with Boston’s customized systems, providing citywide optimized green lights and real-time performance metrics. This pilot set the stage for a scalable solution, allowing Boston to expand TSP to more intersections without requiring new equipment at every location.
What Leaders Are Saying
As MBTA General Manager Phillip Eng noted, “This will add to the reliability benefits already felt by riders on Routes 57 and 66 every day, improve bus service for the community, and bring riders to their destinations more quickly.”
Supporting Transit Operators
Beyond rider benefits, bus drivers gained from improved on-time performance, ensuring better breaks and layover management. This leads to higher job satisfaction and enhances the overall quality of transit services.
Looking Ahead
According to Benjamin Silverstein, MBTA Transit Analyst, “We received good results from LYT’s data, and we were able to validate those results using our own internal data sources. The results of the pilot were promising, and we hope to expand TSP to more intersections in the future.”
With proven results and scalable technology, LYT.transit has the potential to transform MBTA’s service area, increasing efficiency, sustainability, and rider trust in Boston’s transit system.
San Jose Routes 66, 68, and Rapid 568: Redefining Efficiency
In San Jose, LYT’s transit prioritization technology cut red light wait times by an impressive 50% along routes 66 and 68. Building on this success, they expanded to include Rapid 568, further improving the region’s traffic flow and transit reliability. And now, they are on their way to LYT-ing the whole city with our transit signal priority solution. Our AI-powered platform intelligently prioritizes signals, reducing delays and optimizing transit performance. In just four months, we delivered tangible results that enhanced commuter experiences and laid the groundwork for broader deployments.
- Key Achievements:
- Faster, more reliable bus service
- Increased corridor efficiency without compromising traffic flow
- Rapid implementation and measurable improvements
Division Transit Project: Award-Winning Collaboration
In partnership with TriMet, the City of Portland’s Bureau of Transportation (PBOT), and others, LYT played a pivotal role in the Division Transit Project, recognized with the prestigious 2023 Transportation Achievement Award. Our NextGen Transit Signal Priority (TSP) was key to modernizing Portland’s transit infrastructure.
LYT’s cloud-based TSP solution eliminated the need for hardware installations at every traffic signal, streamlining operations with a center-to-center communication network. This innovation improved reliability and speed and set a new benchmark for regional transit operations.
- Impact Highlights:
- 70% reduction in signal delay
- 30% increase in receiving green lights
- 13.2% reduction in fuel costs
- Reduced travel times for transit buses
- Enhanced performance data, enabling better decision-making
- Improved safety and efficiency for all travelers along the fifteen-mile corridor
As PBOT Director Millicent Williams noted, this project represents “the most advanced traffic signal technology in the city,” benefiting pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers alike.
Transformative Metrics Across North America
Beyond individual projects, LYT’s impact is far-reaching. In 2024 alone, our solutions delivered significant results:
- $1.15M in fuel cost savings
- 2,378 metric tons of reduction in CO2 emissions
- 18,511 hours saved by reducing red light wait times for transit buses
- Prioritized 6,892 green lights for emergency vehicles
- 18,690,864 priority requests from transit vehicles
These achievements reflect the power of our AI-driven traffic optimization platform, which combines real-time data and machine learning to deliver smarter, greener transportation solutions.
Shaping the Future of Transportation
LYT’s mission is simple: to create connected, intelligent traffic systems that benefit everyone. From improving transit reliability to enhancing safety for emergency responders, our solutions are setting new standards for cities across North America.
As we expand into new markets and pursue innovation, LYT continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible in transportation.
At LYT, every safer intersection, reduced delay, and saved gallon of fuel represents progress toward a brighter, cleaner, and more connected future.
